I opened up the newsletter this week with shock and awe that you visited my town!
If you're ever back in Madison, we highly recommend stopping at Ice Cream Social. They make small-batch, rotating flavors of ridiculously-good ice cream. Everything is gluten free, they always have a vegan flavor, and they donate a portion of sales to a nonprofit. Right now it's the Immigration Law Center, I believe.
Leopold's is also a must - a cute bookstore/coffee shop/cocktail bar combo.
Also, as a former Capitol employee, I would highly recommend taking the dome tour in the summer. You get to go all the way to the top and the sites are unparalleled. You can call the front desk to reserve a tour with the Sergeant at Arms.
Thank you so much for all the additional recommendations!!! I have added them to my list for the next time I'm there - I'm sure I will be back at some point in the summer! Where is your favourite place to have dinner there? xxx
For more of a chill day, Vintage has amazing burgers and sandwiches, and there's a million locations. If there's any dietary restrictions in the group, I'd check out Ollie's in Fitchburg (about 20 minutes from downtown). They do great gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan food.
For a mid-range, North & South has the best seafood and BBQ I've ever eaten in the Midwest.
If you're looking for something a bit upscale, Heritage Tavern is a wonderful farm-to-table and my favorite on the square. The Ollie's sister restaurant, St. Charles Station, does a mean traditional Wisconsin supper club with a Nola twist (also in Fitchburg).
And lastly (because I can't pick between my babies), Novanta on University Avenue has the best traditional Neopolitan pizza in town. It's also super fast for a busy travel day.
Hope that whets your appetite! Thanks for all you do. :)
Loved this newsletter as always! I always find this such a comforting part of my week.
Thank you!!! That means so much. I appreciate you <3
